DS Ray Carling has worked with DCI Gene Hunt for many years, as his right hand muscle man, tackling suspects to the ground and making sure they talk. Ray has made some mistakes during his career as a copper but has also done some outstanding work. Both of these have earned him demotion and promotion respectively within CID.
Ray's best mate is Chris, and they excel when working together.
Single Ray keeps his eyes on the hot lovelies that pass through the station, particularly twins with great funbags.
Before becoming a copper, Ray planned to join the army like his father had done, and his grandfather. However, he did not feel he was army material and joined the police force instead. The thought of signing up to the army sticks in Ray's mind, as he feels he let his father down and disappointed him by not joining the army like the rest of the family
